It is especially important to keep your children reading during the summer. Sign them up for summer reading. The following quotes say it far better than I . "Research shows that reading just six books during the summer may keep a struggling reader from regressing."http://www.scholastic.com/ schoolage/experts/learning/9_12_preventsummslide.htm "Countless studies demonstrate that children who read during the long summer months have stronger reading and comprehension skills when they return to school in the fall. These children have a larger vocabulary, and better overall school performance than children who don't read during the summer. It only makes sense, doesn't it? The more you read, the better you read. The better you read the more you learn." from http://www.tpl.lib.wa.us/v2/Kids/Bugs/parents.htm "Research shows that children can lose up to 25% of their educational gains if not educationally challenged and engaged during the summer. " from http://www.phila.gov/philareads/whatwedo.html "Experts agree that children who read during the summer gain reading skills, while those who do not often slide backward." http://www.rif.org/educators/articles/summerslide.mspx ************************************************************************ *********************************************************************** LIBRARY STATISTICS : May Items borrowed: 21,283 Children's programs 12 Attendance: 181 Reference questions: 702 *********************************************************************** Have a GREAT Summer!
