Seekonk Public Library News 5.1 Monday January 9, 2006 A monthly newsletter about the Seekonk Public Library http://www.seekonkpl.org news@seekonkpl.org _________________________________________________________________ Greetings from the Director, Sharon St. Hilaire: "The world is flat: a brief history of the twenty-first century" by Thomas Friedman is by far the best book I have read in 2005. I think that it should be required reading for everyone! Everything in this book pertains to how we acquire information, both now,in the future. Seeing our business is providing access to information in this community, I am paying particular attention to the details. The Board of Library Trustees are preparing their FY2007 budget and each year I must propose a goal for the budget. I am going to call this FY07 "The world is flat budget." Here is my proposed goal. "The Seekonk Public Library will remove barriers, ease access to resources and encourage the development of self-reliant information users." Come to think about it, wouldn't this be a great goal for the Town of Seekonk? If you would like to participate in this exciting time, there are three openings on the Board of Library Trustees for the April election.
