Greetings to all:


The Seekonk Public Library began implementing the FY07 budget cuts

on July 1st. Staff hours were cut and the library was closed 

from July 1 - 4th. The library will also be closed every Saturday

in July. The library does not meet the State's minimum 

appropriation requirement with this budget and will need to apply for 

a waiver of this requirement. 

 
Regardless, we reopened July 5th to a stampede of people and 2073 

items were borrowed. This begs the question of how one measures

if a department is more important or less important to a community. 



As a manager, the critical word is measurement.  The first thing I 

would do is compile input and output data in a systematic manner from 

each department. After analyzing that data, I would develop consensus 

on the data's meaning. Then, I would create a plan of how

we can move forward to provide this community services within 

the budget appropriated.

PARDON OUR APPEARANCE!!!

The library has been without janitorial staff since our janitor was

transferred to the new Police/Fire facility. While the Public Works

staff is doing their best to empty trash etc, the building has not been

properly cleaned in months. This will be just one of the many 

challenges facing us this fiscal year.  If anyone would like to

volunteer to clean the building, forms can be obtained from any of the

Library Trustees or at the Customer Services desk.

The library's website has been redesigned and will be launched

this week. Check it out and please give me some feedback! !!!

bees have in common. Be prepared to laugh and learn in a 
one-of-a-kind revue. 

July 12th SUMMER CONCERT SERIES 2006 - YANKEE NOTIONS kicks off this
series in the Library back yard with a folk duo performing traditional
and contemporary New England music & tales. 
Sponsored by the Friends and Seekonk Cultural Council

July 17th "SPARKY'S PUPPETS BUG TALES" 6:30pm - Watch a hard-working
ant and a dancing grasshopper prepare for winter.  Follow the antics 
of a silly spider and meet a crafty cockroach who loves to get into 
mischief.  Sparky Davis performs with lively humor and lots of
audience participation

July 19th SUMMER CONCERT SERIES 2006 - 6:30pm in the Library back yard
MEADOW-LARKS SWING BAND - Listen to the sounds of this eight piece swing
band as they take you back to the sounds of the Big Band era 

July 24th "WHAT'S BUZZIN'WITH BOOKS?" 6:30pm - Become a book explorer
with Greg McAdams and discover that every time a book is read, it
magically comes to life.  Combines puppetry, storytelling, magic tricks
and audience participation for a fun-filled unique program.

July 26th SUMMER CONCERT SERIES 2006 - 6:30pm in the Library back yard
THE WIPPETS - Join this three member group presenting their lively
eclectic mix with voice and guitar, drawing inspiration from blues
and country, Bob Dylan and the Beatles

July 31st "INSECT COMEDY" 6:30pm - Join Diane Edgecomb with stories that 
will entertain and keep us laughing as we take a closer look at the 
wonderful world of our six legged friends - insects.
