Seekonk Meadows

Seekonk Meadows is a recovered natural setting that overlies an existing landfill and provides passive recreation opportunities and environmental education. Its use is governed by the Department of Environmental Protection’s 310 CMR 19.000. The landfill is sealed by a rubber membrane and vented by pipes. The site was the town dump, active until the 1970s, and then left abandoned for decades. In early 2008, work began to transform the nine acres into Seekonk’s first community gathering space.

One half mile of paths are available for easy walking in this quiet and natural setting. The Meadows provide access to the Gammino Pond Conservation Area, a sixty-acre property that includes a five-acre pond.

Passive recreational activities are allowed in the Meadows that do not endanger the capped landfill and respect other users. Passive recreational activities include: walking, running, wildlife observation, and snowshoeing. Pets on a leash are welcome.

Please enjoy and respect the natural surroundings, clean up after pets and place all trash in appropriate containers.
