Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are an important part of our staff. In fact, your library could not provide many of the services it does without them. Most of the volunteers at the library spend a few hours each week helping the staff do those jobs that might not otherwise get done right away. The Library tries to match each volunteer to a particular task that they will enjoy doing and find rewarding. This frequently involves working on special projects with a regular staff member.

What Do Volunteers Do?
Volunteers perform a variety of tasks in support of the regular staff. Many volunteer staff, for example, work processing and repairing books and other items. Volunteers oversee care of the library's gardens and landscaping. One group of student volunteers regularly cleans the library's videos. Other volunteers make shorter term commitments for special projects, for example, the Friends of the Library Book Sale.
Who Can Volunteer?
Just about anyone can volunteer. The volunteer staff at the library includes teens and retirees, men and women, former librarians and people who never worked in a library. You must be fourteen years of age, however. Volunteers under the age of eighteen must have the permission of a parent or guardian.
How Can I Help?
Right now, the library is looking for people to help with landscaping, book processing, general housekeeping and computer maintenance.
Volunteer landscapers weed, prune as well as plant and replant in the library's gardens and beds.
Processing volunteers help get new materials ready for the shelf. This involves putting them in protective jackets and cases, and applying the labels, bar codes and identification marks.
Book Sale Volunteers are needed to help sort and box donations of used books. You'll move the salable items to storage and send the rejects to the recycling cart. It's heavy, dirty work but great fun if you love looking at old books.
